Summer Dating Tips to Keep You Fresh, Flirty, and Faithful

Finding a partner can be a rough road, but summer is a great time to renew your efforts when it comes to your experience as a single Catholic!

Good weather and fun activities make summer the perfect time to put yourself out there and meet new people.

This summer can be the season that you freshen up, brush up on your flirting skills, and stay faithful. Here are some tips to do all three.

Freshen things up

To keep things fresh this summer, you’ll need to update your online dating profile. Seems daunting, I know. But you can do it!

There are quite a few ways to keep your profile updated, including adding new interests, new location if you’ve moved, and a fresh and current profile picture. Try re-writing your bio, too. It’s amazing what some fresh wording can do for your Catholic dating life!

Something to keep in mind as you freshen up your profile for the summer is positive self talk. You want to attract other single Catholic men or women to your profile, so start by talking about all the good things about you.

Also, choose just one Catholic dating site and stick to it all summer long. Catholic Singles offers free messaging between mutual favorites as well as some other benefits not available at other Catholic dating sites, so this one is my vote (and I’ve been on a couple)!

Get flirty

Now staying flirty is something else all together. You need to be sending messages and going on dates! But what if you’re bad at sending messages or arranging that first meetup? No worries, you can learn!

A first message can be something very simple like, “Hi, your profile made me think of how nice it is to listen to live music [insert something from his/her profile that popped out at you]. Who’s your favorite musician? I’d love to get to know you better.”

You can get progressively more in depth from there.

Are you hitting it off with someone you met online? There are lots of great ideas for first dates out there but some of my favorites are all public places. Public places take the pressure off of both of you to be intimate and also give you a good out if things go south. Remember, you don’t actually know this person yet, so a public place is good for safety, too.

You also don’t want to do an activity that would take away your ability to converse and get to know each other better (sorry movies, you’re out for the first date). Here are some great date ideas to get you going.

Keep faithful this summer

As a single Catholic, the one thing you don’t want to do is to lose sight of the faith, the real reason you’re on a Catholic dating site to begin with! Here are a couple saints to look to while you’re on this dating and vocations journey.

Saint Dwynwen

She was a young woman in Wales who is credited with saying, “Nothing wins the heart like cheerfulness.” She’s also the patron saint of lovers!

Saints Louis and Zelie Martin

They were the parents of St. Thérèse of Lisieux and were incredibly devoted. They’re a great pair to pray to for finding a match that will call you on in holiness and truly be a partner.

Saint Raphael the Archangel

He is traditionally the patron saint of those looking to find their partner, so he’s obviously a good saint to get to know this summer.

Saint Margaret of Cortona

Margaret was a married woman who converted from Anglicanism to Catholicism in a time when it was dangerous to be a Catholic in England. Though he didn’t convert, her husband didn’t snitch on her, either. He did what he could to make sure she could practice her faith.

Saint Agnes

Agnes might seem like a weird one to get to know when you’re discerning married life as she was an unmarried girl but she’s actually perfect for you, man or woman. What she teaches us, though, is to remain faithful and devoted to Christ above all else, even relationships and friendships. Christ will always lead us to what and who we need if we stay close to him.

There are so many saints to get to know as you strive for faithfulness this summer,  but these are a great start.

Maybe you’ll even find a patron for your relationship from this short list!

A prayer for your summer as a single Catholic

Of course, you need to keep your prayer life up to be faithful, too. What better for someone searching for a spouse than to pray a daily prayer for discernment?

Here’s one of our favorite prayers to add to your daily prayer time this summer:

Help Me To Discern

Today, O God of all days,
give me an experience of your heart.
Draw me deep into your very being,
into the core of your love for me, others, and the world.
Give me a glimpse of others the way you see others:
loving them, forgiving them,
and delighting in the way they give glory to God
through their very existence.
Help me to discern out of that open place of deep affection
so that I too might be a useful vessel of your love in the world.
