Reflecting Back on Valentine’s Day-God the Father

Reflecting Back on Valentine’s Day-God the Father

A short time ago, one of my roommates told me how her father had made her Valentine’s Day particularly special. My friend had been through a difficult relationship that had ended abruptly. Her father understood that.

He comforted and took care of her through the ordeal. She was very close to her father. On Valentine’s Day, he made the day very special for his beloved daughter by giving her flowers and chocolates. I always thought that was such a beautiful story and one that showed great fatherly tenderness.

The good news is that all of us have that tender loving father. He is Our Heavenly Father and he loves each of us infinitely.

Many of us singles didn’t have a sweetheart on this past Valentine’s Day. Many of us are not aware of God’s great love for us. Well in this month of love, it can be wonderful to be reminded of God the Father’s personal love for each of us.

LETTER TO CATHOLIC SINGLE WOMEN

God the Father considers each of you as His daughter. He is with you always. He thinks you are beautiful. He believes in you. Your life was not a mistake in His eyes. You are the daughter of a King. He has a wonderful plan for your life. He has chosen each of you and He rejoices in each of you. He has given you specific gifts which He wants you to develop. He sees such great potential in you to help Him build His Kingdom and He sees your soul with all of it’s beauty and all of the beauty it will have in the future as well.

God the Father sees each of you as His son. He loves you with an infinite, unconditional love that is too great to fathom. You are made in His image and in His likeness. He sees you as strong and courageous. He sees the great things you are capable of-of fatherhood and sacrifice of authentic love and of building His Kingdom. He sees your faith in His Son. He sees the way you take care of others and the way you love.

We say we have a prayer life, but…

prayer life

How long has it been since you have had a conversation with your Heavenly Father? Isn’t it time you talked with Him? February, this month of love, might be a good time to pick up the conversation, with the God who is love, the One who designed love.

He is the one who knows us better than we know ourselves. He created our personalities, in all of their nuances. He knows our type, but more than that, He wants to accept His love and be loved by us first in a deep relationship before He brings that special someone into our lives.

Many of us feel more comfortable praying to Jesus Christ, but the good news is that God the Father wants an intimate relationship with each of us also. He wants us to turn to Him each day as Father. He wants to comfort us in our sorrows and be there with us in our joys.

He wants to heal us and deliver us to from whatever we are facing. He wants to care for us; He wants to provide for us too. In fact, He delights in this! Did you know He delights in you? God the Father loves us and wants to be loved in return! He is Abba. He is Daddy!

I believe God the Father knows it can be lonely to be a single, especially during the month of February, especially in a culture that glorifies couples, but gives horrible advice on how to sustain a relationship and get into a good marriage—especially in a culture that glorifies promiscuity and cohabitation but has no idea what it means to truly love and to sacrifice—especially in a culture that is doing everything it can to prevent Catholic singles from becoming the saints God the Father wants us to be.

That is why He wants to love us in a special way, to pour out His love on us singles, especially in this month of love, in this month of February! Can we open our hearts to receive His perfect love? Do we want to know Him better as Father? He wants this so much and will respond to our request if we ask Him.

Jesus knows this. He wanted us to come to know the love of the Father, just as He did. God the Father is a good, good Father. He is the perfect Father.
