Do you  know that dumpy, lazy feeling you get from watching too many Netflix seasons? Tired of mindless channel surfing? Podcasts are a great way to learn, grow, and stay informed about literally any subject. Oh, and did we mention that they’re entertaining?

Maybe you’re new to the world of podcasts. Or, maybe you’re a podcast aficionado looking for some new episodes to change up your podcast feed. Regardless of how seasoned of a podcast listener you are, there’s always a new show (or two!) to discover.

Whether you’re hitting the road for vacation this summer or needing something to break up the monotony of the work day, check out these five podcasts that every Catholic guy should be listening to.

1. The Art of Manliness

the art of manliness

The Art of Manliness Podcast is a podcast that aims to help men become better men. You’ll hear in-depth interviews with authors and thinkers. Brett McKay finds insights on how men can better understand their culture, their lives, and themselves. The podcasts aims to recapture the ancient and classical ideal of manliness, one of arete and eudaimonia: excellence and flourishing.

The show topics cover everything from history and philosophy to social/professional skills. Learn about parenting, self-defense, and physical training.

Some of our favorite episodes include “Deep Work with Cal Newport,”, “The Thinking Man’s Guide to Style,” and “The Quest for a Moral Life.”

2. The Catholic Man Show

The Catholic Man Show started in May of 2016 when Adam Minihan and David Niles realized, after running a Catholic radio station in Tulsa, the need for Catholic radio programs for men. Real, relatable, and often comical, Adam and David have a conversation promoting the lost art of living virtuously.

Each episode is broken up into three parts. First, Adam and David discuss a manly drink. They open, review, and enjoy a beverage on air, all while talking about the virtue of moderation. Then, the hosts highlight a manly gear that every man should own (and how it applies to the Catholic life!). Finally, they discuss a manly topic and how it relates to the life of Catholic men.

Want to check out the show? Start with “The Catholic Gentleman.” Then check out “True Friendship with Dr. John Cuddeback.”

3. Pints with Aquinas

pints with Aquinas

You may know Matt Fradd because you listened to a talk he gave on masculinity and purity. But he also has some great deep thoughts from Saint Thomas Aquinas to share with Catholics.

If you could sit down with the Angelic Doctor over a pint of beer and ask him any one question, what would it be? Every episode of Pints With Aquinas revolves around a question, a question that  Thomas addresses in his most famous work, The Summa Theologica. So get your geek on, pull up a bar stool, and grab a cold one.

Just now subscribing to Pints with Aquinas? Check out Matt’s interview with Bishop Robert Barron on Thomas Aquinas and the Holy Eucharist.

4. Your Brothers in Christ

your brothers in Christ

It started with one of those annoying retreat weekends through Church (Christ Renews His Parish – CRHP) that you were partially, or in some cases, completely forced into attending. Tagged onto the backside of that weekend was an additional 6 months of weekly meetings.

Sounds like a lot, right? Prior to attending this half-year adventure, the whole thing seemed to be too much. However, looking back it’s easy to see that experience was the catalyst to Your Brothers in Christ.

Now, the team behind Your Brothers in Christ is pursuing the apostolic life through service, piety, fellowship, study and prayer. Their goal? Talking the talk to help men walk the walk.

Don’t know where to start? Check out “The Zombie Rescue Van” and “Five Do’s and Don’ts of Confession.”

5. Executive Disciple

If you’re a business executive, professional, you’re more than likely working to achieve success.

But then what?

The Executive Disciple is designed for the leader striving to overcome the frustration of a “divided life”—the separation of trying to live a virtuous life as a person of faith, and trying to manage the onslaught of worldly cares and concerns.

If this podcast catches your eye, start out with “Bringing God Into My Workday” and “Six Lies We Tell Ourselves.”
