Fall is the time of changing and falling leaves, pumpkins, cooler temperatures, and cozy nights. It’s a perfect time to still get outside while the weather is nice before outside time is really bogged down by cold temperatures and snow and ice.
Ask someone out on a date and go celebrate this weather! Here are ten fun date ideas for every price range.
1. Go all in on Pumpkin spice
Grab a pumpkin spice latte from your favorite coffee shop and sit down to get to know someone. Or, go to the store together and see how many pumpkin spice items you can spot.
Kick this date up a notch and make it a pumpkin spice vs. apple cider date day. Decide together which flavor is tastier overall.
2. Visit a pumpkin patch
Visiting a pumpkin patch can be the perfect, fun fall date. Pumpkin patches usually have corn mazes, tractor rides, petting zoos, and all kinds of other activities and merchandise. Don’t forget to pick up your pumpkins, though! Then go home and have a carving contest.
Want to have even more fun? Choose designs for the other person to carve. Whoever comes closest to carving the design picked for them wins!
3. Wander around a corn maze
Some mazes are peaceful and fun to do during the day. Some mazes turn into spooky haunted mazes at night! Getting lost in a maze and having to work together to find your way out will be a great bonding exercise (and tons of fun) no matter when you do it.
4. Go into a haunted house together
I’ll be honest, I absolutely hate haunted houses. However, some of my most fun dates include visits to these creepy spots. There’s no better excuse to get close than because you’re trying to dodge a zombie or ghoul or mad scientist!
There’s no better way to show off your bravery than to take your date through a haunted house and protect him or her from all of the ungodly creatures. Just don’t physically touch any of the actors in the haunted house. They’re just doing their jobs.
5. Visit an orchard for some apple picking
Even if apples don’t rank high on your list of favorite foods, visiting an orchard together can be a fun fall date. Picking apples together can be peaceful, and it doesn’t cost too much, either!
Plus, there are so many good things you can make with apples. You could also invite other couples/friends over for a bobbing for apples night. You can get at least two dates out of apple picking. That’s some pretty good return!
6. Have fun at local festivals
Some communities have whole fall festivals with pay-as-you-go games, rides, food, merchandise, and entertainment. Some even have parades! My hometown had an annual fall festival that featured all of this plus pie eating contests and a beauty pageant. With so many activities and so much entertainment to choose from, you won’t run out of things to do or talk about all day.
The entrance fees are usually either very cheap or free, with most of the offerings being paid for as you do them, so it can get as cheap or expensive as you’re willing to go. Flexibility is always key.
7. Enjoy theme park horror nights
Big theme parks like Universal Studios, Walt Disney World. and Disneyland have fall decorations and special ticket Halloween events for months on end during this season. But they can be very pricey and far away depending on where you live. But plenty of other amusement parks do similar things on a smaller scale that are just as fun.
Check in with the closest amusement park to you to see what they’re offering this fall and decide if it’s something you would enjoy on a date. Some allow you to dress in costume, some have zombies and the like walking around the park, and others offer haunted houses of their own or other haunted experiences.
8. Get outdoors for a nature walk
The colors are never more splendid than they are in fall, so it’s a perfect time to go for a nature walk. Make it fun by seeing how many leaves of each color you can collect or which colors seem most prominent in your area.
Take some pictures, and make sure you’re in some of those pictures, too. This could also be a sweet way to document your relationship, too, and would make for the beginnings of a cute gallery wall someday if the relationship progresses! Best of all, nature walks and your finds along the way are absolutely free.
9. Go sweater or scarf shopping
Who doesn’t need good, cozy sweaters and scarves to weather the chilling fall in? No one that I can think of! Go shopping together and pick out sweaters or scarves for the other to try on. Have fun, go a little crazy, and then pick one or two items to buy at the end of your trip. That’ll back nicely into lunch out, too. You’ll need somewhere to show off your new digs!
10. Plan a cozy night in
A cozy night in is a great date night idea, too. Marathon a bunch of Halloween movies, have a smorgasbord of your favorite fall treats, wear your cozy sweaters, and cuddle up in a blanket on the couch.
Here are some ideas for your movie viewing:
- Non-scary: Hocus Pocus, the Nightmare Before Christmas, The Addams Family, and Ghostbusters
- Silly and spooky: Beetlejuice, Gremlins, and Little Shop of Horrors
- Scary: The Shining, The Exorcist, and Psycho
- Straight up horrifying: Halloween, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Child’s Play, Pet Sematary, and Scream
Have fun this fall and spend time celebrating the season together!
