Dear Father Jim -
I'm writing to ask is missing Sunday Mass really a mortal sin? I work Monday - Friday and am taking classes on the weekend. With studying on top of my busy schedule, all of which I'm doing to make a better life for myself, wouldn't God be more interested in these positive steps I'm taking rather than whether or not I make Mass?
Sincerely - Mary
Hi Mary -
Thanks for your question and congratulations on the great choices you've made and steps you're taking to improve your life. That's terrific that you are going back to college and trying to improve your personal life.
My word of caution though is to recognize that the only way we can truly improve our personal lives is when we have a personal, deep relationship with Jesus, which as Catholics is nourished and centered around The Eucharist -particularly when we gather on the day that Jesus rose from the Dead (Sunday) which for 2,000 + years has been central to our woship.
God is interested so much in your life, all He's looking is for you to make some time, some space for Him -with the rest of the family on Sunday
Hope to be praying with you this Sunday!
Fr Jim
