Guilty Catholic. Am I the only one?

by iheartliterature on May 19th, 2010 @ 07:17 PM

So, my mom is Catholic, but my father isn't. He respects my mom's faith, though, and she raised my brother and I as Catholics. We attended church faithfully every week and catechism classes, too.

However, as I grew up, I kind of grew away from the church a bit. I still attended mass regularly until a few years ago. When I moved away from home to attend graduate school a year or so ago, I quit going regularly. I only attend once a month or so now, and I feel kind of guilty. I just don't have a great drive towards mass, and I often feel like I don't get much out of it when I do attend.

So, I guess I'm curious as to how other Catholics who might not regularly attend feel about this. Does anybody else feel a certain amount of guilt?

Iheart,
Please do not feel guilty. I'm going to say that God loves you and knows how you are feeling because that is what we say and believe.
Now what I am going to say is that many people go through what you are going through now. I did. In fact I left the church completely for about 15 years. But like the Good Shephard that our God is, he came to get me back. He knew that I was going to need Him and he sent what I call his angels on earth to get me back in church. And the love and belief I have since coming back is so amazing. It's a deeper love of God then when I was younger and just went to church because that is what we are supposed to do.
So please don't feel guilty. Maybe if you go to another church, with a priest that you can relate to, you will find something deeper. I do believe that you are on this site for a reason. More than what you may realize, just listen, listen to your heart just before you go to sleep. God loves talking to you at that time. And good luck
