Canon in D Major by Pachebel is my favorite piece of music. I see it as a love song from God.
This beautiful piece of music describes who we are as created by God. Listening to this piece fills me with Him. There is the slow majesty in the beginning of the piece that shows what He created all of us to be, full of dignity and goodness in His image. It tells the joyful lightness and delight when we live in His Presence knowing we are His children and in His care. It tells of the beauty of life singing His praise and the love that surrounds us as we live as Christians, loving one another through Him. As the music swirls I see and hear in my mind's eye little children laughing and playing, angels looking in touching us, Mary glancing and graces flowing. Heaven smiles. I have heard it said, when you are single you are dancing with God. God is a gentleman, when the one He has made for us finally arrives and asks us to dance, God graciously moves aside. My single status means I am dancing with God. I can see another asking to dance with me. I cannot see his face. As the piece ends I envision my life together with that someone who is "bone of my bone, flesh of my flesh" the one He made specifically for me, and me for you. Walking together towards Home. And at the end of our lives stepping onto another path lined with beautiful trees, gentle light streaming in and this music playing as we meet Him. |
