VIVAT JESU
BY: MARK ANTHONY ROSOLOWSKI

Vivat Jesu, a greeting between two members of the Knight's of Columbus, upon hearing Vivat Jesu, a Brother Knight will respond, Semper. Such an inspirational greeting, it should be used by all men and women of the Catholic Faith.

Vivat Jesu, translated from Latin simply means: JESUS LIVES. The response Semper, translated from Latin simply means: ALWAYS. So when two catholic gentlemen meet one will say Vivat Jesu and the response is Semper. Is there a better way to remind us that Jesus Lives, Always?

When the Supreme Chaplain of the Knights of Columbus, the late Bishop Charles Greco was still a seminarian, he became so entranced with the story of Saint Bernardine of Siena, that he decided to take the saint’s favorite prayer, “May Jesus Live”, in the Latin form of “Vivat Jesu” to use as his motto for his life and as a priest. Then in 1946 when he became Bishop of Alexandria he chose that phrase to be his Episcopal motto.

Our Past Supreme Knight, Virgil Dechant, wanted the Knight’s of Columbus to be devoted to Jesus and chose Bishop Greco’s motto “Vivat Jesu” as a greeting between Knights. The response to this is “Semper”. By the use of this greeting the Knights show their devotion to Jesus.

In this time of abortion on demand, assisted suicide, same sex marriage, embryonic stem cell research, removal of god from all public places, we need to get the name of God and Jesus back into our lives and back into our country.

The Knight’s have not kept this motto a secret, we proclaim our love for Jesus loudly and strongly, we fight to bring back the core values to this country. So if you want these values brought back, state in loud and strong when you meet someone, “Vivat Jesu”, as they answer “Semper”, we will reach the nation, that Jesus Lives, Always.

PRAYER TO SAINT BERNARDINE OF SIENA

Saint Bernardine of Siena, words were very important to you. You spent most of your life speaking the golden words of Jesus' mercy and his Holy Name. And you abhorred words that were shameful. Pray for us that we may always choose to speak Jesus' name with reverence and choose words of love over words of shame. Amen.
