THE ANSWER IS IN A WHISPER
BY: MARK ANTHONY ROSOLOWSKI Why is it that when we ask God for a favor, ask for His Divine intervention, do we expect the answer to come in a thunderous roar? We must learn to listen to the slightest sound, the whisper. I remember a time in my life going into and out of following God, I did not see any sense of going to church. I figured with all I had done in my life it was senseless for me to attend church. So I sat in my normal pew at the time , last pew, all the way in the back and I prayed for God to give me an answer if I belonged there or not, to let me know if I was worthy of His Grace. After the reading of the Gospel, I doubted if I should be there and was ready to get up and leave, but for some reason I stayed. As the Monsignor started his homily, he said, that as he was getting ready this morning, he heard God tell him to speak on Zacchaeus, the tax collector. As the Monsignor spoke he told how Jesus was passing through Jericho and how Zacchaeus, had climbed a sycamore tree to see Jesus. As Jesus passed the tree, He stopped and looked up and told Zacchaeus to come down, He told Zacchaeus that He was going to spend the night in the house of Zacchaeus. When the crowd saw and heard this they all murmured, "He has gone in to be the guest of a man who is a sinner. Zacchaeus then stood and said to Jesus, Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have defrauded any one of anything, I restore it fourfold." Jesus responded, Today salvation has come to this house, since he also is a son of Abraham, for the Son of man came to seek and to save the lost." It struck me, there was not a loud clap of thunder, there were no trumpets blowing, the answer came to me as a priest softly told a story of another sinner who sought out Jesus. The man was given salvation and Jesus gave the answer, He was here to save the sinner. As we seek out answers to other prayers, we must listen to the answers as they are given. The man who asked God to prove He existed so he could believe, who walked out of his house and heard the birds singing. The woman who wanted to have proof of Gods love for her as her child came running towards her with a necklace made out of macaroni and yarn. The child who wanted God to keep her safe during the storm, she hears her parents voices in another room as she lies in her bed. The person seeking a new love, a new path of life, wanting happiness to return to their life, is drawn to another person who shares with them love in kind words and thoughts. God answers our prayers, He does not have to shout, blow trumpets, have thunder clap or raging winds blow. His answers are there but you have to listen because the answer is in a whisper. |
