CLUB MEMBERSHIP

Membership in clubs always makes people smile and the more exclusive the club is the more that people smile and brag about their membership. I think about all the clubs I have belonged to, some were very exclusive, there was the Superman, Junior Justice League, membership was $1.00 and you got a Junior Justice League Badge and a certificate signed by Superman and countersigned by Wonder Woman. Then there was the Fat Albert Fan Club, membership was free and you got a certificate signed by Fat Albert and countersigned by Bill Cosby. The one I was most proud of was membership in the Record Club, you gat records cheap and you got a metal membership card with your name stamped in raised letters, the raised letters is what made it so impressive.

However, even though membership in those clubs was impressive and noteworthy, as I grew older, I found that I had membership in another club that was even better then all those others combined. I found my membership card for this club dated in 1959. There are no dues, you get a membership book with all the basic instructions contained in it, you get a copy of the ten rules of membership and you are considered brothers and sisters with all other members. The best part of this club membership is that if you leave for any reason you are always welcomed back with open arms, without a penalty. We also meet daily for a feast at the dinner table, the leader of the club always makes sure our hunger and thirsts are quenched by His Body and Blood. All members are invited to this feast.

So when other start to brag about their club memberships, how exclusive they are and how much it costs to be a member and all the privileges their membership gets them, I smile and leave the group. I return to my home and unfold my membership card, the heading reads, “Certificate of Baptism”. My club is the best club around, membership in this club guarantees eternal life which is better then pool privileges any day.
