A FATHER IS NOT A DADDY
BY: MARK ANTHONY ROSOLOWSKI June is fast approaching and in June there is this day called Father's Day. As a male, as a parent, so that makes me a male parent, also known as a father, I am actually against the celebration of Father's Day. Now, I know many of you are at this moment booing and hissing and calling me all sorts of nasty names, well maybe not the name calling but I do hear a few boos and hisses. All I ask is that you hear me out then see if you agree with me or not. The definition of father is quite simply: a male who is parent: a male who is the parent of a human being, or a male animal that has produced offspring. So from this definition all you have to do to be a father is to produce offspring. A simple task, takes no thought, no feelings, no love no commitment. A dog can be a father as can a cat or a guppy. On the other hand a daddy is described as a persons father, now the difference is subtle but very important. A father is a male that produces off spring; it looks at it from the vantage point of the father, as if producing off spring is a monumental achievement. A daddy is a persons father, note it does not include animal in that definition and it looks at it from the level of the offspring. So making this short and to the point, why do we celebrate fathers Day, when the only accomplishment there is to produce offspring. I would rather see us celebrate Daddys Day, a daddy is a man who takes the time and effort to love, protect, care for and provide for his children. A daddy is there to teach a child to ride a bike, throw a baseball, and climb a tree. A daddy stays up all night to put a bike together on Christmas Eve; a daddy carries a sleeping child to their bed. A daddy scares the monsters away and when angered by the Childs behavior has his heart melt as the child looks at him. A daddy looks in on his child after he goes to bed and whispers I love you and cries as he walks away and hears I love you more daddy. A daddy walks his daughter down the aisle, and gives his baby away with a tear in his eye. A daddy does all of this and a lot more, but most importantly a daddy loves. So remember any man can be a father, it takes a special man to be a daddy. |
