Q & A - Sept 17, 2009

by FrJim on Sep 17th, 2009 @ 10:16 PM

Dear Father Jim, I am so disgusted with people at this moment, I can almost scream. I hear the politicians yelling their bold lies. They try to drown out messages of improvement in the name of God. I hear words such as evil tossed around, as if a man's proclamation that another is evil, is fact. I see these people dammaging others, themselves and the nation. No plan is perfect or it would be God's plan, but to spend your time dreaming up such lies is inconcieveable to me. Don't these hucksters listen to themselves? Where will this all end?

Dear Disgusted -

I wish I knew! and I wish I could disagree with you!  The political climate in the US seems to have taken quite the nasty turn to be sure.  Charges of racism, indifference, apathy - it makes a challenging political climate even more charged, tense and angry.

For me, one thing I've done is limit my exposure to media.  Responsible, fair, objective journalism seems to have disappeared.  Every media outlet seems biased from one side of the aisle or the other.  So usually I try to limit my exposure to a newspaper, and a few websites/ stories posted online rather than watching numerous reports on air.  My hope is that doing that will help me not get overly worked up by the reporters and all and try to keep my mind clear and objective.

The other thing is to remember the words of Psalm 121 -... I raise my eyes toward the mountains. From where will my help come? My help comes from the LORD, the maker of heaven and earth.  When we lose trust in man, well it should remind us of the only one we can trust!

GOD BLESS!

Fr Jim
